Book Review: All You Have to Do Is Call by Kerri Maher

Thank you so much to Berkley Publishing and Cindy’s Thoughts from a Page podcast Patreon group for the early copy of All You Have to Do Is Call by Kerri Maher. I could not put this book down despite how hard it felt at times.

It’s the early 1970s in Chicago and abortion is illegal. But there is help for women in crisis and that’s Jane–a secret women’s health organization founded by Veronica. It’s dangerous work, but the secrets must be kept. The chapters alternate points of view from Veronica, Veronica’s life-long friend Patty and a newly appointed professor Margaret. Each woman is fighting for women’s rights both for society and for themselves.

This is a book that will stay with me for a long time. The author’s note at the end is a must read. It is amazing to me what a whole picture of a woman Maher created for each character–from their strengths to their weaknesses. It is especially timely these days as our rights are under attack. What a thought provoking book.  Pub Date: September 19, 2023

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
