Book Review: Tatum Comes Home by Tatum Talks with Mica Stone

Tatum Comes Home by Tatum Talks and Mica Stone (The Dog Agency Novels) was a hug in book form. Thanks so much to Kensington Books and Between the Chapters Book Club for the galley copy, which I finished and am planning to hand to a family member who asked for a “feel-good read.” This book fits that bill perfectly. While I love mysteries and thrillers, as a sensitive reader I’m careful about what I read before bed. I was glad to have Tatum in those quiet hours before sleep.

Told from alternating points of view (the people Tatum encounters and Tatum himself), readers hear the story of how beloved family pet Tatum went along for a ride with his owner to the local hardware store. Unfortunately, a sudden strong storm popped up, terrifying Tatum who ran to hide and ended up in a truck he thought was his owner’s but wasn’t. Tatum’s family is devastated to return to their truck and see no sign of Tatum. Meanwhile Tatum finds himself on a journey filled with people who fall instantly in love with him and want to help him find his family. Hilarious diary entries written by Tatum start each chapter.

I laughed and sighed and remembered all the dogs in my life (past and present) as I read. Did I need to suspend my disbelief at times? Yes I did. Did that bother me? Absolutely not. I was lost in this charming and sweet story, perfect for dog lovers and readers who love found families.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
