Bestselling mystery writer Tammy Wright returns to her small hometown in Maine to help in her Aunt Clara’s ceramic shop during the tourist season. She is looking forward to being with her aunt and having lots of peace and quiet to work on her next mystery. But as readers of cozy mysteries know, Tammy isn’t going to get any peace and quiet for a while.

Soon after arriving, Tammy learns that Aunt Clara, along with other area shop owners, are being harassed into selling their properties to two competing real estate agents. These agents want to clear the way for a fancy new housing development. Clara remains strong despite the pressure, even in the face of a dead body in her shop. Soon after, Clara is kidnapped without a trace, and Tammy is both terrified and determined to find her. Thankfully she reconnects with a former classmate, Zeke, who is now a Sheriff’s Deputy, and the two work together to solve the crimes. Tammy quickly learns the difference between crime on a fiction page and crime in real life.

What a wonderful start to a new series! I enjoyed this so much. The details of the small town were so cozy, and I could easily visualize Tammy working to solve the mystery. And speaking of the mystery – it was so well planned and well paced, and I did not guess it ahead of time. There’s a touch of romance developing between Tammy and Zeke and it was just the right amount. It’s fun to see characters reconnect as old friends first before the romance. Aunt Clara is a wonderful character, and I just love stories featuring strong relationships between younger and older characters. I’m anxious to get my hands on the next in this series, but I’m thankful to learn that Donna has an extensive backlist–I’ll certainly be loading up my kindle!
