About the Book:

Everything is coming up rosé for innkeeper Jess Byrne until a murder on opening weekend gives her B&B’s killer vibe a whole new meaning.

Schitt’s Creek meets Only Murders in the Building in this sparkling debut mystery.

It’s the grand opening of The Pearl B&B in Hudson Valley, and owner Jess Byrne has prepared the ultimate, Insta-worthy welcome, complete with her ex-boyfriend—reality singing sensation Lars Armstrong—performing live. As guests check in and mimosas are poured, Lars arrives with his stepdad-turned-manager Bob in tow. But things go south when Bob is found dead, and Lars is the prime suspect.

After a desperate plea from Lars, and knowing the reputation of her B&B is at stake, Jess agrees to help clear Lars’ name, but the more she digs, the less sure she is that he’s innocent. Especially when he’s found at the scene of another murder.

With the guests under lockdown, the B&B in the press for all the wrong reasons, and a killer on the loose, Jess is in over her head. With the help of her best friend and business partner Kat, Jess is determined to uncover the truth before Lars is put behind bars and The Pearl is permanently canceled.

My Review:

I’m happy to report that author Sydney Leigh has given her new cozy mystery series, Hudson Valley B&B Mysteries, a wonderful start with Peril in Pink. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for book two!

Jess and her best friend Kat are the new owners of the fancy B&B The Pearl and are wonderful business partners. (Side note: I would love to stay at The Pearl just without the murders!) Not only are they savvy in business, but they are also true crime podcast fans. Thankfully they work together to get to the bottom of the murders at their inn.

In addition to an ebook copy, I was able to grab the audiobook through my library’s Hoopla Digital subscription, which was perfect for a busy weekend. This was such an enjoyable, quick, easy read. The characters were so much fun and the dialogue flowed smoothly. I especially enjoyed the humorous moments and am so impressed when an author can blend humor and mystery so seamlessly. The unexpected twists kept me listening even when I finished with my chores because I just needed to know what was going to happen.

About the Author:

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
