April 2024 Five Star Reads

It was such a busy month, and I’m thankful for all the wonderful books I read in April 2024, including these three titles I gave five stars:

The Women by Kristin Hannah – a 400 plus page book I inhaled in a day and a half–I could not put this down. Hannah is a masterful writer and isn’t afraid to tackle hard topics in such a readable way. I’m so glad I read this–I learned so much. It’s everywhere for a reason. It is just so good.

In the Shadow of the Greenbrier by Emily Matchar this five star read had me taking every opportunity I could to put in my earbuds to listen. For fans of historical fiction with a family mystery at the center, go now and grab this! The immersive story tells the story of one Jewish family in West Virginia and travels back and forth in time from 1942 to 1992 to unravel the mystery at the root of the family. Excellent writing, wonderfully drawn characters and based on little known WWII history on the American homefront.

Riley Thorn and the Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score – I’m late to the Lucy Score party but I am now 100% in my Lucy Score Era. I cannot love this book more. It was funny and steamy and mysterious and has some wonderful found family all put together. (Reader know thyself: If language and steamy scenes aren’t your thing, this isn’t for you.) Riley Thorn is “divorced, broke and living with a pack of elderly roommates. And those hallucinations she’s diligently ignoring? Her tarot card-dealing mom is convinced they’re clairvoyant visions. Just when things can’t get worse, a so-hot-it-should-be-illegal private investigator shows up on her doorstep looking for a neighbor…who turns up murdered.” I laughed so much.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
