Labradored to Death: A Dog Lover’s Cozy Mystery by C.B. Wilson: Book Review

Labradored to Death: A Dog Lover’s Cozy Mystery by C.B. Wilson is such a unique and clever cozy mystery perfect for animal lovers (especially dog lovers).

Cat Hawl is a journalist who lives in the dog-obsessed Barkview (three cheers for the delightful map in the front of the book). Cat has had her share of dog-sitting jobs, but this time she gets to care for the brilliant and much loved lab, Champ. Champ is the star bat dog for a professional baseball team and in town as part of Barkview’s centennial celebration. In addition to traditional dog-sitting tasks, Cat also needs to manage Champ’s autographs (excuse me, I mean paw-o-graphs). These were some funny scenes, and I found myself chuckling as I visualized the cool Champ stepping on an ink-pad.

The mystery hits when just three days before the Barkers baseball game for Barkview’s centennial, a historic, multi million dollar Candy Catcher baseball card is stolen from the town’s museum. Cat (with help from Champ as well as her people friends) has limited time to find the missing card.

This was my first read of the series and it was full of quirky characters and adorable pets. As a dog lover myself, I’d love to visit Barkview. I enjoyed the mystery with its many twists and turns. I did not guess the ending and found myself gasping at the big reveal. Lots of fun!

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
