Weekly Reads Round Up: Favorite Read of the Week

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?
The Library Girls of the East End by Patricia McBride

About the Book:

The first installment in a BRAND NEW series from bestselling author Patricia McBride 1940, London.

When Cordelia accepts the post of head librarian in Silver Town Library, her mother is more than a little disapproving. The East End has high levels of poverty and illiteracy, and her mother says it’s no place for a woman of her status. But Cordelia is determined to make a difference in these times of strife, and along with her colleagues, Jane and Mavis, she begins to help the local community, making sure everyone knows what the library can offer them. Against a background of war, air raids and rationing, it becomes clear the library is more than a building filled with books – it is the beating heart of a community refusing to be torn apart.

My Review:
A heartwarming work of historical fiction. If you loved The Underground Library by Jennifer Ryan or The War That Saved My Life by Kimberly Bradley, this is a work of historical fiction you must pick up. The story features such strong characters even in the face of the hardships of war–you can’t help but admire them. And while they face those hardships, they also make the best of what they have. They are creative and thoughtful and there for each other in the face of the ups and downs of life. It’s a gentle, character driven story that I could not put down.

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: The Tanglewood Bookshop: A fun, festive cozy romance by Lilac Mills

Listening: The Paradise Problem by Christina Lauren

Week in Review:

Wow. It is still so hot in STL. I want to put up my fall decorations, but I’m struggling with just how hot it is! School activities have definitely started, and we are busy driving here and there. Despite the heat, we did see a local parade (I love marching bands in parades) and got a yummy lunch out. I also made a lot of progress on a Halloween cross stitch project that I started in October of 2020! I had set it aside for a while, and it’s fun to pick it back up. Today it’s been all about laundry, laundry, laundry!

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

I’ve got stacks and stacks of books to read this week and I’m looking forward to diving in!

  1. It was supposed to be over a hundred tomorrow here in Waco, but a rain shower came through tonight and cooled everything off.

I like the look of The Library Girls of the East End.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
