Happy Sunday! Thanks to Deb Nance at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon.

Weekly Reads Round Up: Favorite Read of the Week

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

The Queen’s Faithful Companion: A Novel of Queen Elizabeth II and Her Beloved Corgi, Susan by Eliza Knight

About the Book:

From USA Today bestselling author Eliza Knight comes an endearing and vivid novel told from the unique multi-narrative viewpoints of a young Queen Elizabeth; Hanna Penwyck, the fictionalized Keeper of the Queen’s dogs; and Susan, the Queen’s Corgi, whose love and loyalty were boundless.

My Review:

This was an absolutely charming read. I grabbed it on audio and I loved having it in my ears. I’m a huge dog lover and I think I had a silly smile on my face. Highly recommend the author’s note at the end because it’s fun to see what is based on fact and what fictions she added. A clever and heartwarming read.

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: The Loathe Boat by Cindy Dorminy

Listening: Murder on the Menu (The Bad Girls Detective Agency #3) by Katie Marsh

Week in Review:

This week felt like a billion days long! Work, meetings and appointments filled our days. My daughter did get her braces off, and she’s so excited. Today we did laundry and took apart my daughter’s loft bed because she gets a new bed tomorrow. It will be so fun when it’s all finished, but we are at the stage of the project where everything is everywhere! We had a brief warm-up weather-wise this week and now it’s so cold again. I enjoyed breakfast this morning with a friend I hadn’t seen since August.

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

Sunday night our book club meets. The week ahead is full of many meetings and activities that involve me driving kids places. In my effort to be intentional about scheduling things I look forward to, I have decided to attempt making bread next weekend. I found a very basic recipe online. I’ve never tried this and thought it might be fun to set aside some time and learn. I also preordered a copy of Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros, which is book three in her Empyrean Series. I loved book one, Fourth Wing and am reading book two, Iron Flame bit by bit now.

  1. As soon as I saw The Queen’s Faithful Companion I got a copy, thanks for sharing it. My son has always wanted a Corgi. I keep telling him to go get one but he says we have 2 cats and a dog already and don’t need another animal.

  2. The cover with the corgi is so sweet! I managed a brief walk on our one warm day but also spent some of my energy cleaning up some slush and ice before the cold set in again.

  3. Good luck with your bread! And with finishing the kids room!

The corgi cover is super cute!

    Have a great room!

  4. I’m a big baker, and I often use a cast-iron pot to make the bread in. It comes out near-perfect every time.

The Queen’s Faithful Companion sounds lovely. My grandkids have a corgi rescue, and what a lovely dog that is.

  6. I can totally relate to not buying snacks and then feeling snackish as I sit here without a single piece of chocolate anywhere in the house. Also out of ice cream as I devoured the entire pint last night when I thought TikTok was gone.

  7. The Queen’s Faithful Companion sounds really good. it’s great that you are able to reconnect with a friend that you haven’t seen in so long. I typically make bread about once a week, but I stick with a very basic loaf just a French bread so it’s just flour salt, yeast and water. Eventually, I may branch out, but my husband prefers a simple bread. He feels that his stomach can tolerate it better. I hope you enjoy your bread making. Happy reading!

I love the kinds of books that make me smile. I need more of them in my life. The Queen’s Faithful Companion sounds wonderful! The title of the Loathe Boat made me laugh. 🙂 Homemade bread sounds so good. I hope it turns out well! I hope you have a great week!
