I’m happy to share my review of the first in a new cozy mystery series Murder on a Monday (book one in the Murder Movie Club series) by Marcy Blesy. Enjoy a little murder with your side of popcorn!

171 pages, Kindle Edition, Published February 21, 2025

Monthly Murder Movie Club meets monthly at The Northwoods Movie Theater, in northern Michigan, to watch a murder mystery movie on the big screen. They pause the movie midway to discuss clues and theories. It’s a fun hobby and a wonderful escape for each of the very different club members.
One Monday, however, club members find the ticket-taking popcorn maker John E. Cash in the lobby of the theater, murdered. As mystery loving folks themselves, they decide to work collectively to solve the crime before the Northwoods Police force can.
What a fun start to a new series! This was fast-paced (only 171 pages) and the perfect escape when I just needed to take a break from all the to-dos on my list. I read this in one setting. It’s a creative storytelling set-up because each character has a chance to tell the story through their point of view. While that might sound confusing with a full cast of characters, it wasn’t at all.
And I think what helped the storytelling so much was that each member of the murder movie club was so unique and quirky! Usually readers are being led through a mystery by one sleuth, and here we can experience multiple points of view. I loved it.
I could easily picture the Northwoods Movie Theater, and I would love to see more of Northwoods itself in future books.
If you enjoy themes of friendship and my favorite, found family, in your cozy mysteries, grab this right away on your ereader. It’s a great introduction to what is sure to be a delightful series. And what’s even better, readers don’t have to wait long for book two: Murder on a Tuesday, which releases March 24, 2025
Happy reading and sleuthing!
