Spring Is Here: Books & Spring, A Book List

Here are three books I’ve read that make me think of Spring and three Spring hopefuls from my TBR stack. What are you loving this Spring?

Three Books I’ve Read:

The Gardener’s Plot by Deborah J. Benoit

“A woman helps set up a community garden in the Berkshires, only to find a body in one of the plot’s on opening day.” A fun-spring time read.

The Secret Garden on 81st Street: A Modern Retelling of the Secret Garden by Ivy Noelle Weir, Amber Padilla  (Illustrator)

“This full-color graphic novel moves Mary Lennox to a New York City brownstone, where she and her very first group of friends restore an abandoned rooftop garden…and her uncle’s heart.” This had a little bit of the feel of the Vanderbeeker books and stayed true to the essence of The Secret Garden with a modern spin. And the way it handled anxiety…perfection. 5 stars and hearts. This is a book to hug.

In the Shadow of the Greenbrier by Emily Matchar

While not necessarily a Spring time book, the cover reminds me of Spring and the story deserves five glowing stars. For fans of historical fiction with a family mystery at the center, go now and grab this! The immersive story tells the story of one Jewish family in West Virginia and travels back and forth in time from 1942 to 1992 to unravel the mystery at the root of the family. Excellent writing, wonderfully drawn characters and based on little known WWII history on the American homefront.

Three Books I’m Looking Forward To Reading This Spring:

The Story She Left Behind by Patti Callahan Henry

The Page Turner by Viola Shipman

Story of My Life by Lucy Score

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
