Time Travel Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by Budget Tales Book Blog where readers take a look back at what they were reading this time last year (or the year before or the year before that…)
Last year, towards the end of April 2024, I had just finished Playing It Safe (Electra McDonnell, Book 3) by Ashley Weaver.

My Review:
Playing It Safe is book three in Ashley Weaver’s Electra McDonnell historical mystery series and was another outstanding addition to this series. And they are great on audio too.
Ellie McDonnell—formerly a safecracking thief has been assisting the British government during WWII. Her contact, British Intelligence officer Major Ramsey, approaches her with a new assignment. Ellie is to travel to the port city of Sunderland under an assumed identity. In Typical Major Ramsey fashion, he leaves the details vague and simply tells Ellie to await further instruction.
Only moments after arriving in Sunderland, Ellie witnesses a man fall dead in the street, with a note clutched in his hand. Her instincts tell her this must be connected to her new mission. What follows is a face-paced, nail biting mystery that involves possible Nazi spies and a counterfeiting operation. And on top of that, bombs start falling on the city of Sunderland.
This is a solid mystery featuring wonderful characters and also some follow up to plot lines introduced in earlier books. Book FIVE, One Final Turn, the FINAL installment of this series, has a publication date of June 3, 2025, and I cannot wait. Fans of historical mysteries like Maggie Hope should get their hands on this series. Five glowing stars. @minotaur_books
