Book Review: Ranch and Red Herrings (Bluegrass Ridge Ranch Mystery, Book 1) by Tonya Kappes

Georgia “Cussy” Hollingsworth thought she’d left small-town drama behind when she traded Kentucky for city life, but then news of the passing of her beloved uncle arrives, and she returns to his horse and cattle ranch for the reading of the will. The plan was simple: settle his affairs, sell the property, and head home. Instead, Cussy finds herself tangled in long-held grudges, whispered secrets, and a murder she can’t ignore.

A new series from Tonya is like a special surprise present arriving on one of the hottest days of summer! First, I have to mention the cover – it is so much fun and different from her other series. It grabbed my attention and made me want to read this.

I enjoyed getting to know Cussy and watching her come into her own on the ranch. And I’m so glad she has a loyal and true farmdog by her side. She’s also a determined woman, not afraid to jump in and investigate. She does act sometimes without thinking, but who can blame her. She sees a wrong and she wants to right it!

There are, as the title suggests, lots of red herrings in this new mystery, and I did figure out the culprit ahead of time.

As always with Tonya’s writing, the sense of place is vivid and the cozy details ever so comforting. I am definitely interested to see what’s next for Cussy.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
