I love audiobooks and listen to so many books each month. Between January and June, I have listened to 70 audiobooks. I love being able to get in book time when I’m at the grocery store or folding laundry. Here are 10 I gave FIVE STARS in April, May, and June 2025.Â
The Four Queens of Crime by Rosanne Limoncelli
Check out my review on King’s River Life.
Vera Wong’s Guide to Snooping by Jesse Q. Sutanto
Once again I listened to the audiobook and I loved loved loved having all those characters, but especially Vera in my ears. I so enjoyed book one, and this one was even better. She’s still Vera, but more reflective and I want to hug her and shake her at the same time. I listened in one day. This is a page-turning mystery that includes found-family and so much love and care. I adored it.
No More Tears by Gardiner Harris
omg, this was such a page-turning, totally disturbing read on the history of a well-known company. I only knew just a little about this company and let me tell you, my eyes are WIDE open now. Big money leads to corruption which leads to pain and disaster for society. I highly recommend, but whoosh. It is hard to listen to because it is upsetting.
How To Have A Killer Time in DC by Sam Lumley
Check out my review on King’s River Life.
The Griffin Sisters Greatest Hits by Jennifer Weiner
I’ve been a long time fan of Jennifer Weiner’s writing and I feel like this one might be one of her best. I was immediately drawn into the stories and even when a character was being absolutely selfish and terrible, I still was able to see the whole person. Weiner is so talented – her writing captures real emotions and behaviors – she captures the messy of life. Especially here with the addition of fame and young girls. It was sad and hopeful, hard to read and page turning. It is a five star read for me for sure.
Holy cow. This was so good. And creepy. So creepy! It would be a great spooky season read. This is young adult gothic mystery/fantasy/romance, with so much mystery that I listened every single chance I could get. There are more in the series and I will be listening in the fall.
Extra Normal by Kate Alice Marshall
Three cheers for spooky middle grade fantasy adventure stories! I listened to this and devoured it. “Charlie Greer is nothing special—at least not compared to her adopted siblings. Her younger sister is a ghost. Her brother Mateo is a werewolf. Gideon is the product of seriously sketchy experiments that gave him telekinetic powers. Even her parents work for the Division of Extranormal Investigations tracking down all things supernatural, alien, and otherwise unusual.” And then her parents go on vacation and spooky neighbors move in and something is just not right. Is Charlie the only one who can save the day? You bet and I am here for it. I love Charlie.
One Final Turn by Ashley Weaver
“The fifth and final installment in the Electra McDonnell series brings safecracker Ellie on a mission across World War II-era Europe to Lisbon, Portugal to rescue a key group of escaped POWs.” I have absolutely adored this historical mystery series and while I am sad this is the last one, it was so perfectly well done that it made it a bit easier to say goodbye. I binge listened to this in a day and a half, using every possible excuse to have it in my ears. They are brilliant on audio (I’ve taken all five in that way). I gasped and sighed and smiled throughout and the ending was chef’s kiss. If you’re a mystery lover and want a strong, funny, independent former lock-pick sleuth in your reading life, go now and read. You won’t regret it. Five wonderful stars.
The Love Haters by Katherine Center
Well, I loved this with all my heart and soul (iykyk). It was absolutely delightful and meaningful and funny and endearing and deserves as many heart eyes as I can possibly give it.
Lasagna Means I Love You by Kate O’Shaughnessy
This was a lovely middle grade story that had me tearing up in a few places. Fans of the Vanderbeekers would love this – different stories and situations, but gave me the same kind of feels as I read. I love Mo and wanted to hug her, and there are some adults in this book I could have smacked. I gave this five stars. And if it weren’t a billion degrees, I’d fire up my oven and make some of Mo’s recipes.
