Picture Book Friday on a Thursday! Spring & March Favorites

One of my 2026 reading resolutions is to read 48 new to me picture books. I thought it would be fun to take one Friday a month and spotlight a selection of picture books I have read and enjoyed recently. This month I focused on books about Spring, as well as a mix of books I just loved!

The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, Axel Scheffler (Illustrator)

Somehow I missed this oldie, but yes, yes, a goodie! I love that brave, smart little mouse. Wonderful rhyming text and delightful pictures made this so much fun to read.

To Catch a Ghost by Rachel Michelle Wilson

“A charming and humorous tale about the new girl who is determined to stand out at show-and-tell… by catching a ghost!” This was so much fun – wonderful illustrations and such sweet text. I’d hug that ghost if I could.

A Perfect Day by Lane Smith

A perfect day until Bear comes along…I found this book when I was looking for picture books that might fall under the topic of Spring. It’s so fun to see all the animals enjoying the yard and then that big ol’ bear comes along. The picture of Bear with the corn cob in his mouth had me laughing out loud.

Millie Fleur’s Poison Garden by Christy Mandin

Author’s dedication: “For anyone who’s ever felt a little bit weird. The world is more interesting with you in it.” I adored every page, every picture, every word of this delightful picture book. So many details that you could read this over and over and still notice something new. It’s a “truly one-of-a-kind” book!

Loops by Jashar Awan

A “picture book about the perseverance and positive self-talk needed to learn to tie your shoelaces” and being a big, brave kid! This was so sweet and such a great message to keep going. Darling illustrations bring the story to life.

The Trouble with Giraffes by Lisa Mantchev, Taeeun Yoo (illustrator)

I adored Strictly No Elephants by Lisa Mantchev, so I was happy to get my hands on this next book. I loved it just as much – what a wonderful way to show how it is to make sure everyone has what they need and feel welcome.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
