One of my 2026 reading resolutions is to read 46 new to me picture books. I thought it would be fun to take one day a month and spotlight picture books I have read and enjoyed recently.

Scarecited on the First Day of School by Alliah L. Agostini, Lala Watkins (Illustrator)
This is so creative and spot on! Creating combined words to express combined emotions is perfect and goes way beyond “hangry.” We aren’t all ONE feeling or ONE thing. I just loved this so much.

Sharing the Dream by Shelia P. Moses, Keith Mallett (illustrator)
“An inspiring portrait of a monumental day in US history, seen through a child’s eyes.” What a wonderful way to learn about and discuss history with younger children. Beautiful story.

Annie Cohen Kopchovsky rode her bike around the world in the 1800s! Why are we not talking about this more? This was fascinating and inspiring, and I now need to go on a deep dive to learn more. Wonderful nonfiction picture book.
