💡Picture Book Spotlight: October 2026 Edition

One of my 2026 reading resolutions is to read 46 new to me picture books. I thought it would be fun to take one day a month and spotlight picture books I have read and enjoyed recently. Here are three that are full of October fall and spooky (not scary) vibes!

Millie Fleur Saves the Night by Christy Mandin — I love Millie so much. Beautifully illustrated (I wish I could frame some of the pages) and perfect text that captures the nervousness and beauty that surrounds the night. This also reminded me of Wait Til the Moon is Full.

The Leaf Thief (Squirrel and Bird) by Alice Hemming, Nicola Slater (Illustrator) — This is such a darling series of picture books and I adore the illustrations in this one. The red, gold and orange colors pop off the pages. Thank goodness for good friends like Bird who help us understand the world around us.

Scary Shark: A Jaw-some Halloween by Mike Lowery — This would be such a fun Halloween story to read aloud. I love characters that are so clearly scared but wont admit it. Really fun illustrations as well.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
