The Language of Book Lovers

Sometimes we bookish folks use abbreviations that not all are aware of. I’m starting a list and will keep this updated. What’s missing?

TBR – To Be Read

Backlist Titles – Older books available as opposed to newer titles (called frontlist titles)

ARC – Advanced Reader Copy (Sent by publishers for pre-publication reviews)

eARC – eBook Advanced Reader Copy

DNF – Did Not Finish (A book you decided not to finish)

Wishing you many happy reading experiences!

NRN – Not Right Now (A book you don’t want abandon for life, just for the moment)

Trade Paperback – Softcover, larger, more durable version of a mass market paperback

Mass Market Paperback – Softcover, smaller in size than trade paperback, usually smaller font size, made to fit in spinning book racks

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
