The Sunday Salon: January 28th 2024

Happy Sunday! Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon, and I’m joining in!

Weekly Reads Round Up: Sunday January 21st, 2024 – Saturday January 27th, 2024

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

The Bookbinder’s Guide to Love (Wicked Sisters Book 1) by Katherine Garbera (I read an arc from Netgalley.)

The Christie Curse (A Book Collector Mystery Book 1) by Victoria Abbott (A book from my shelves!)

Bluff by Michael Kardos (I listened using my library’s Hoopla app. This was the January selection for the MomAdvice Book Club and was amazing. Instagram review here.)

A Body at the Séance (London Ladies’ Murder Club Book 2) by Marty Wingate (I read this for an upcoming review for Kings River Life. I loved it.)

How to Solve Your Own Murder (Castle Knoll Files Book 1) Kristen Perrin (Thank you so much to Cindy from Thoughts From A Page and Dutton Books for the chance to read an ARC. I loved it. Review linked below.)

Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself by Nedra Glover Tawwab (I listened using my library’s Libby app. Some great stuff in here.)

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: Killer Jam (Dewberry Farm Mysteries Book 1) by Karen MacInerney (I read a copy from my library.)

Listening: The Diamond Eye by Kate Quinn (A book from my shelves!)

Life:

The kids had a three day week this week with a snow (ICE!) day on Monday and teacher workshops on Friday. And despite that it felt like such a long week. I’m usually not a fan of wishing time away, but I’m ok with turning the calendar to February on Thursday.

3 Good Things:

One: My son made a New Year’s resolution to see his friends more, which is such a fun goal. On Friday he had three friends over and at one point they all descended into the kitchen hungry. I got a glimpse of what a future with hungry teenage boys might be like!

Two: I attended a zoom book discussion for Bluff by Michael Kardos and enjoyed listening to everyone’s comments.

Three:  Saturdays are our family movie nights and we each take turns selecting a movie. We have a rule that you can’t yuck someone else’s yum – so no fussing about what the person selects for their movie night. Last night my husband selected The Karate Kid and that was a blast from the past for sure. I’m happy to report the kids loved it as well!

  1. Every blogger in the world seems to be suffering from the weather, sometimes too cold, sometimes to hot, sometimes to snowy, sometimes too dry. What a planet! Good luck with the kids going back to school all the time.

  2. I liked Diamond Eye — haven’t heard anything about the audio version so I’m curious how that goes.

The Karate Kid is a great movie to introduce modern kids to!

  3. Our grandkids had a short week too due to weather, it was exhausting. Have a great week, Sarah ☕📚🪱😊

  4. I have The Diamond Eye on my TBR. I hope you are enjoying it! I have only read one Quinn book, but I did like it. Her books always appeal to be subject matter wise.

Sometimes the shortest work/school weeks seem like the longest. I don’t know that I’ll ever fully understand why. I am not sure I am ready to let go of January, but I am looking forward to February.

I hope you have a great week, Sarah!

  6. It really does feel like January 55th, lol. We normally don’t get a lot of ice storms here, but we do get a lot of snow. And January is our inversion month because we’re surrounded by mountains on all sides and the smog has nowhere to go. We have the worst air quality in the US. We all look forward to February and March because we get more storms will help clear the air. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

  7. It’s a long week for parents when school is canceled. It is especially difficult when the weather is awful, too. Yes, January 55th!

I think I need to find out more about Bluff. Glad you enjoyed a good discussion over Zoom.

  8. I love that rule! Can’t yuck someone else’s yum! What a great thing to teach kids. As a grown adult, I’m still reluctant to say that I like something for fear someone will yuck on it. LOL

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
