My Review:
Double Scoop of Murder is the third book in the Coffee & Cream Cafe Mysteries by Lena Gregory. This delicious cozy mystery can be read as a standalone for readers just discovering the series.
Danika (Dani) Delany runs her uncle’s old fashioned malt shop in Watchogue and is surrounded by a wonderful group of friends (Gwen, her best friend, her sister Meghan and the hilariously charming Eli). It’s a busy and fun life, but it suddenly turns chaotic when local billionaire Maxwell Crumbholtz dies and leaves his fortune to be discovered by anyone who enters a treasure hunt.
Dani is convinced by her group of friends and family to enter the contest and she finds herself getting into the spirit of the hunt, trying to decipher the clues, until she discovers a dead body at one of the possible clue sites. And on top of that, a witness claims to have seen Dani at the scene prior to the murder. Now Dani must work to find the real killer before it’s too late.
What a fun read this was–the plot summary had me at treasure hunt and ice cream. You can’t go wrong with that combination! The descriptions of the ice-cream had me drooling and telling my family we needed to go out for ice-cream right away.
This story features a solid mystery with excellent twists and some moments of true breath gasping tension, that I just wasn’t sure who was the true culprit until the end! In addition, I so enjoyed the characters. Dani’s two possible love interests add some wonderful romantic tension, and her friend/family group are such fun and add a wonderful sense of humor to the book. I will certainly return to this series for more.
About the Book:
From author Lena Gregory comes a hunt for more than just treasure…
Danika Delany is loving running her uncle’s old fashioned malt shop on eastern Long Island and putting her own modern spin on the treats they serve. Life is finally looking up for her! That is, until local billionaire Maxwell Crumbholtz dies and leaves his fortune in the form of a treasure hunt.
Chaos descends on Watchogue, and Dani and the rest of the gang from the Coffee & Cream Café join the melee when they enter the contest, try to decipher the clues, and go in search of the treasure. But Dani digs up more than she expected when she discovers a dead body buried instead of a treasure! To make matters worse, a witness claims to have seen Dani at the scene of the murder. Now, instead of a four-billion-dollar payday, Dani is on the hunt for a killer.
