The American Homefront WWII: A Book List

I’m compiling a list of both fiction and nonfiction about the American Homefront during WWII for an upcoming special project I’m going to tackle. Here is what I have on my themed TBR. What books would you add?

Fiction Titles:

Home Front Girls by Suzanne Hayes and Loretta Nyhan

The Wartime Sisters by Lynda Cohen Loigman

The Beantown Girls by Jane Healey

The Enemy We Don’t Know (Homefront Mystery Series) by Liz Milliron

Nonfiction Titles:

The Year of Peril by Tracy Campbell

No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II by Doris Kearns Goodwin

The Darkest Year: The American Home Front 1941-1942 by William K. Klingaman

Since You Went Away: World War II Letters from American Women on the Home Front by Judy Barrett Litoff (editor), David C. Smith

  1. I’d Mary Anna Evans book, The Physicist’s Daughter. Also, Laura Jensen Walker has a new book coming out, Death of a Flying Nightingale, about WWII air ambulance nurses in England.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
