Apple Dumpling Murder: Paranormal Cozy Mystery by Trixie Silvertale

(The Great Escapes Virtual Book Tour stopped here yesterday, September 28th!)

About the Book: Santa’s daughter is settling into her life as a baker, but could a fresh murder burn her biscuits? Cindy Claus loves exploring the human world and baking amazing treats. So, she’s bubbling over when her aging landlord takes her under his wing and promises to leave her the bakery in his will. But before she can stir up a celebration, her patron collapses, dead, like a bad soufflé.

With suspicion instantly falling on the budding baker, Cindy must rely on her fragile new friendships and her father’s trusted arctic fox. She’ll have to butt heads with local law enforcement as she gathers crumbs, and one wrong move could crush her dreams…

Can Cindy find the proof she needs, or will this villain punch down her last hope?

Apple Dumpling Murder is the second book in the festive paranormal cozy series, Christmas Catastrophe Mysteries. If you like kind-hearted heroines, furry sidekicks, and a dash of mistletoe magic, then you’ll love Trixie Silvertale’s seasonal secrets.

My Review: I absolutely adored this quick Christmas read, starting and finishing it in one day! While this is book two in the Christmas Catastrophe Mysteries, it’s the first I have read. And yes, as soon as I finished, I purchased book one (Peppermint Cookie Murder) for my kindle and added it to my festive reads TBR for the coming months.

Here we have Santa’s daughter, Cindy Claus, running a bakery in the human world. She’s funny and quirky and magical and kind. Did you see the 2019 Noelle movie? This book gave me the same fun, heartwarming vibes, despite the murder mystery Cindy must solve. And of course there’s a magical sidekick – an arctic fox.

This was the perfect magical escape with a lovely mix of mystery and humor and Christmas cheer. Yes, you have to suspend your disbelief as you dive into this paranormal cozy mystery, but as I have said before, that’s one of the main reasons I read – to enjoy something totally different than real life! Readers looking for a pause from the day to day business of the season or who are looking for a little Christmas spirit, should purchase this as a holiday treat for themselves. We all need treats! This also includes yummy recipes.

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: Death at the Dinner Party (A Secret Bookcase Mystery #3) by Ellie Alexander (see reviews for the first two books in the series here

Listening: What Time the Sexton’s Spade Doth Rust (Flavia de Luce #11) by Alan Bradley

Week in Review:

A little cooler this week, thank goodness. We did pass our taekwondo test on Tuesday, which is a huge relief. I stumbled a bunch but made it through! No school on Friday and it was the perfect rainy day to stay home. We got chili in the crockpot and then watched Inside Out 2 in the afternoon (it’s on Disney+!). I loved it so much.

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

Lots to look forward to this week! My son’s school is having a day where grownups can attend a specials (i.e. art, pe, design lab) class with their student. I’m attending a book swap later this week, and we are seeing the musical Back to the Future.

  2. It’s fun to imagine that Santa’s daughter is working on her career as a baker. I can see why you might enjoy a book like that!

I wonder what specials class you will choose. Art would be great, I think. Congratulations on completing your taekwondo test.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
