Weekly Reads Round Up

Favorite Read of the Week

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

The Grey Wolf (Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #19) by Louise Penny

About the Book:
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

That’s only the first in a sequence of strange events that begin THE GREY WOLF, the nineteenth novel in Louise Penny’s #1 New York Times-bestselling series. A missing coat, an intruder alarm, a note for Gamache reading “this might interest you”, a puzzling scrap of paper with a mysterious list—and then a murder. All propel Chief Inspector Gamache and his team toward a terrible realization. Something much more sinister than any one murder or any one case is fast approaching.

Armand Gamache, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, his son-in-law and second in command, and Inspector Isabelle Lacoste can only trust each other, as old friends begin to act like enemies, and long-time enemies appear to be friends. Determined to track down the threat before it becomes a reality, their pursuit takes them across Québec and across borders. Their hunt grows increasingly desperate, even frantic, as the enormity of the creature they’re chasing becomes clear. If they fail the devastating consequences would reach into the largest of cities and the smallest of villages.

Including Three Pines.

Week in Review:

Well.

This week was…long and disheartening.

I did work a few extra hours which kept me busy, and I did so enjoy the Cozy Con on Friday night. The speakers were excellent, and I’ve added even more books to my TBR. We were hit with the stomach bug again, which felt unfair. Saturday I opened all the windows and cleaned the house top to bottom. It was exhausting and the nap after felt great. Saturday evening we watched Antman and the Wasp which I loved.

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

I’ve got some great looking reads lined up for the week and book club next Sunday night. I’d like to work on adding a few small things I can look forward to.

  1. I stopped reading the Armand Gamache books because the international intrigue theme seemed forced — your implication is that I should skip this one too.

Thanks for the warning … mae at maefood.blogspot.com,

  3. You have some great books lined up this week. I never did start the Louise Penny books and I absolutley love a series. Not sure why I put it off, probably to finish one stack or another. That’s a good goal for me next year to start the series!

  4. I am completely disheartened. I’m sorry your family had the stomach flu again. That is unfair! All of these look like great books, and my TBR list just gets longer and longer…. 😀

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
