Weekly Reads Round Up: Favorite Read of the Week

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

Murder at the Dressmaker’s Salon (Cleopatra Fox #4) by C.J. Archer

About the Book:

As fashion designer to London’s elite, she had an eye for detail and a flare for the dramatic. But there’s nothing stylish about her cold-blooded murder.

With the social season just around the corner, the women in Cleo’s family are having new outfits made by the most sought-after designer in the city. Madame Poitiers is bold, self-absorbed and not French, despite her claims.

When Cleo stumbles on her dead body in the salon, she is in a unique position to gather clues and speak to witnesses. But she doesn’t expect to find Harry Armitage’s business card in Madame’s possession. What is the alluring private detective’s connection to the victim? And why is he avoiding Cleo?

As she peeks behind the veil of lies, Cleo uncovers the secrets Madame Poitiers tried to hide. But which secret led to her murder? And which one of the suspects turned the fashion icon into a fashion victim?

My Review:

I am loving this historical mystery series (perfect for those looking for something similar to the Veronica Speedwell series). I listened to book four, just as I have the others and it is a true listening treat! Part of me just wants to binge the whole series, while another part of me wants to balance the series with all the other wonderful books on my TBR. The life and deliminas of a reader.

Cleo is a wonderful sleuth, unafraid to deny convention in the search for justice. And there’s a moment with Harry that had my heart aflutter. Will there be more moments in future books?

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: Sugar and Sliced (Maple Lane #0.5) by C.A. Phipps

Listening: Christmas with the Queen by Hazel Gaynor, Heather Webb

Week in Review:

We are heading to winter break! Yay! This week was busy as well with hair cuts, a zoom meeting, taekwondo, a field trip, a Christmas party and regular work and school! We did see Wicked today and absolutely loved it. I don’t feel very organized or together this season, but I’ve adopted the refrain “I’m doing the best I can!”

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

Winter break! We only have two appointments over the two week break, and I’m ready to read and nap and look at pretty Christmas lights.

  1. What an incredibly busy week! I offered to take one of my granddaughters to see Wicked for her birthday but she wasn’t interested. We went skating instead.

Steve’s cup is the best! LOL

  2. “I’m doing the best I can” is a good refrain for this time of the year. You are very, very busy, and I’m certain you will enjoy the winter break coming up soon.

Sometimes it is hard to know whether to push ahead with a great series or to break up the series with a different good book or two.

  4. I love your Steve cartoon! The C.J Archer series sounds like my kind of reading, sadly our library system doesn’t carry that series, though it does have a few of her other books..

  5. I’m like Steve!

I saw Wicked on stage years ago and saw it a few weeks ago at the theater. It was very different but I loved it! I want to see the second part next year too.

  8. I like the look of all those books! Christmas does creep up on you, but as long as you are having fun that’s all that matters. We have so many people to visit it all gets a bit manic!

    Have a great week!

  9. I have Christmas with the Queen in print from the library, but I don’t think I’m going to get it read. I’m adding it to the list for next year!

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
