Weekly Reads Round Up: Favorite Read of the Week
I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

How to Read a Book by Monica Wood
About the Book:
Violet Powell, a twenty-two-year-old from rural Abbott Falls, Maine, is being released from prison after serving twenty-two months for a drunk-driving crash that killed a local kindergarten teacher. Harriet Larson, a retired English teacher who runs the prison book club, is facing the unsettling prospect of an empty nest. Frank Daigle, a retired machinist, hasn’t yet come to grips with the complications of his marriage to the woman Violet killed.
When the three encounter each other one morning in a bookstore in Portland, their lives begin to intersect in transformative ways.
“How to Read a Book is an unsparingly honest and profoundly hopeful story about letting go of guilt, seizing second chances, and the power of books to change our lives.”
My Review:
I couldn’t put this quiet book down and when I had to, I thought about it constantly. Despite having finished it a few weeks ago, it’s still in my mind. The power of grace and second chances is a beautiful thing.
What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: Soft Serve Sleighing (Coffee & Cream Café Mystery #5) by Lena Gregory (the Great Escapes Virtual Tour stops here tomorrow)
Listening: Hollywood Homicide (Detective by Day #1) by Kellye Garrett
Week in Review:
I haven’t written a Sunday Salon in a few weeks because it just feels like we have been bombarded with illnesses and stress! It seems right now that I am the only one with some kind of virus and I’ll take it. In an effort to focus on some good things, here are a few things I’ve enjoyed since my last Sunday Salon post:
My fifth grader, along with all the kids in fifth grade, got to participate in an immersive dance program for the book Maizy Chen’s Last Chance by Lisa Yee (this is through an organization called MADCO & their Books in Motion project. Read more about this awesome project here.)
I spent some time outside of work with wonderful coworkers, chatting and laughing and remembering.
I attended an author event at our library and heard Victoria Christopher Murray speak about her new book Harlem Rhapsody. It was such a good talk and I cannot wait to clear a little room in my reading schedule to read this.
Something I’m Looking Forward To:
A few things are on the list: Our elementary school has a yearly family dance – it’s a come as you are (dress up or not) and it’s always a fun time. We also have a four day weekend with no school Friday the 14th or Monday the 17th. We have plans to see the new Captain America movie on Friday. I hope to read a lot over the longer weekend.
