💀BOOK REVIEW: Haunts, Hikes, & Havoc (Camper & Criminals, Book 41) by Tonya Kappes

I’m so happy to share my FIVE STAR review of Haunts, Hikes, & Havoc, book 41, by Tonya Kappes. Despite the real feel temperature being 101 today in St. Louis, I’m longing for fall and getting lost in the latest Camper & Criminals book was just what I needed!

190 pages, Kindle Edition, Published September 17, 2025

In this latest series entry (available in Kindle Unlimited!), paranormal TV star Ken Treadwell is found stabbed during the town’s “Haunts and Hikes” festival, with no murder weapon in sight, things take a deadly detour.

With her mama’s event on the line and campground gossip reaching a full boil, Mae must untangle a haunted whodunnit with help from her fiercely loyal Laundry Club Ladies. The suspects? Ken’s polished entourage, a few bitter locals, and even Mae’s right-hand woman, the fiery Dottie Swaggert.

As secrets surface and the ghost-hunting crowd grows restless, Mae races to catch a killer before the next story ends in more than just screams.

I gobbled this up in a day. I love this series – it’s like visiting with old friends. It’s the perfect mixture of a cozy setting, a solid mystery and some good natured humor sprinkled throughout. I would love so much to visit Mae and friends during the fall. The descriptions were postcard perfect. I could picture everything so clearly.

While I had a slight guess as to the true murderer, I loved watching Mae put all the pieces together – gotta love a murder board!

This is my comfort, feel good, always a good bet series and I give this latest entry five glowing stars!

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
