Picture Book Spotlight (June 2026 Edition)

One of my 2026 reading resolutions is to read 46 new to me picture books. I thought it would be fun to take one day a month and spotlight picture books I have read and enjoyed recently.

Negative Cat by Sophie Blackall – How perfect is this?!? Reading solves anything that ails you…even if you are a cat!

Itty Bitty Betty Blob Makes a Splash (Itty Bitty Betty Blob Book Two) by Constance Lombardo, Micah Player (illustrator) – I love Betty with my whole heart. What a wonderful back to school book and most importantly a book about being yourself.

Porcupine Had a Fuzzy Sweater by Jody Jensen Shaffer, Angela Edmonds (illustrator) – What a sweet story about problem solving and telling the truth. The interactive parts would make this a fun read aloud and discussion starter.

Bored Panda by Mike Bender, Chuck Dillon  (illustrator) – I want to read this aloud to my teenager and tweenager. Such a funny and fun way to talk about screens.

Caboose by Travis Jonker, Ruth Chan (Illustrator) – I laughed out loud as I read this! If you have worked in a school and seen the drama that can occur over line placement, you will know this book is incredibly accurate. Would be such a fun read aloud at the beginning of the school year.

Broken by X. Fang – I hugged this book when I closed it. What a reassuring book about making what feels like the worst mistake ever. And what an example to us adults on how to respond. So many hearts.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
