Weekly Reads Round Up: Favorite Read of the Week

Limelight by Andrew Keenan-Bolger – This is a hugging book. I loved it so much. First, while not in NYC, I was a junior in high school in 1996 so it was a trip back in time to read a story set then. Second, and most importantly, I loved Danny. He’s doing his very best in the situation he’s in with the information he has and I rooted for him the entire time. And he thinks he’s not brave, but he totally is. And his friends? Ah I wish we could all have friends like that — swooping in, recognizing you for you and also showing you more of the world. The ending broke my heart into tiny little pieces and then put it back together again. I didn’t want to say goodbye. Gahh this is just so good. My 15 year old theater kid put this on my radar and I’m so glad she did. Five Bright & Shiny Stars.

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: Mrs. Tim Gets a Job (Mrs. Tim #40 by D.E. Stevenson

Listening: Family of Spies by Christine Kuehn

BIG Book Slow But Steady: Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry  (Chapter 30, page 275)

Week in Review:

We visited a new to us indie bookstore in Washington, MO and found an ice cream place. It was a great Sunday afternoon.

The rest of the week was quiet with a few appointments we could check off the summer to-do list. Lots of reading, and we got an afternoon in at the pool. We saw Frozen Jr Saturday which was delightful. Sunday we celebrate Father’s Day with a cookout and rootbeer floats.

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

I’ve got two meetings this week related to work on the middle school pto board, and we are excited to see the musical Shrek at the Muny later this week.

  1. You are busy, busy, busy, but in a good way. How wonderful that you discovered Limelight from your 15 year old theater kid. It’s great to see how much you enjoyed it.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
