On or around the third Monday of the month, I’ll be highlighting recent middle grade reads that I’ve enjoyed. I am so happy working part time in a school library – it’s wonderful to be with kids and books, and my reading life is so much richer! Here are three I read and loved!

Troubling Tonsils!(Jasper Rabbit’s Creepy Tales!) by Aaron Reynolds, Peter Brown (Illustrator) – “From the team behind the New York Times bestselling and Caldecott Medal–winning Jasper Rabbit picture books comes the first entry in a spin-off chapter book series in which Jasper tells the story of a young marmot whose tonsils get the better of him.” Creepy gross and totally hilarious! I loved it! And the kids who have read it at school love it as well!

Carter Avery’s Tricky Fourth-Grade Year by Rob Buyea – “From the author of the beloved MR. TERUPT series comes a story with surprising truths about a student no teacher would wish for, and a teacher no student would want to be stuck with.” Absolutely loved this! Great characters, realistic setting and yay for a middle grade book that features good adults!

Magnolia Wu Unfolds It All by Chanel Miller – Magnolia Wu is a ten-year-old sock detective bent on returning all the lonely only socks left behind in her parents’ NYC laundromat. Another middle grade novel for the win! Love the characters, the examples of friendship and family relationships. It gave me Vanderbeeker and Ivy & Bean vibes!
