Happy Sunday! Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon, and I’m joining in!

Weekly Reads Round Up: Sunday December 31st 2023 – Saturday January 6th, 2024

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

The Blonde Identity by Ally Carter (I listened to a copy using my library’s Libby app. A fun rom-com full of adventure.)

The Forgotten Art of Being Ordinary by CJ Casciotta (I listened to a copy using my library’s Hoopla app. A thoughtful short read.)

Dead and Gondola (Christie Bookshop #1) by Ann Claire (I read a print copy from my library. A wonderful start to a wintery cozy mystery series.)

Brontë’s Mistress by Finola Austin (I listened to a copy using my library’s Hoopla app. Fascinating, well-researched historical fiction.)

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt (I read a copy from my shelves! A thoughtful character driven family novel.)

Being Henry: The Fonz . . . and Beyond by Henry Winkler (I listened to a copy using my library’s Libby app. Absolutely wonderful. 5 stars.)

Vanilla Chai and A Vanishing Victim: A British Cozy Murder Mystery with a Female Sleuth (A Waterwheel Cafe Mystery Book 3) by Victoria Tait (I read a digital copy from the author for a review to come soon on Kings River Life News & Reviews. Lovely cozy mystery series.)

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: The Accidental Alchemist (An Accidental Alchemist Mystery #1) by Gigi Pandian

Listening: Childhood Unplugged: Practical Advice to Get Kids Off Screens and Find Balance by Katherine Johnson Martinko

Life:

For a short week, it felt long. I love structure and routine, but getting back into those things is hard! And my daughter had a terrible sinus infection and ear infection at the start of the week and it was such a thing to hunt down her antibiotics!

And we’re back to driving around to activities and extra things. I was able to help my mom with a few things, and we got to eat lunch at our favorite pancake place. I was also able to grab a walk with a friend in the sunshine Friday morning and that was good for the soul.

3 Good Things:

We had a snowy Saturday and going outside in the wet and snow isn’t my favorite, but my son wanted to go together so I bundled up. We had such a nice time and made this lovely snowy friend. That night we had a crockpot soup, rolls and homemade chocolate cookies with white chocolate chips. It was perfectly cozy.

I am excited to get back into some writing projects and so I cleaned out my desk. It took three hours and involved several bags of trash, a bag to donate and lots of cleaning, but my goodness it looks so pretty and is now a lovely place to sit and work.

I found the coolest book at the library for my daughter: Musicals: The Definitive Illustrated Story by DK (Author), Elaine Paige. It was fun to see her pouring over a book. It is huge and very heavy!

  5. I think I could read through almost any DK book—they are a wonderful mix of text and illustrations.

This is the time of year where I like to clean out and reorganize. I hope to do some boxing up for Goodwill tomorrow when we take down our Christmas tree.

  7. Like you, I love routine. But, you’re right. It’s so hard to get back into one when you haven’t had one for a few weeks. I’m sorry your daughter has been sick. I hope she’s feeling better.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
