☕The Sunday Salon: October 18, 2026 🎃

Happy Sunday! Thanks to Deb Nance at Readerbuzz for hosting The Sunday Salon.

Weekly Reads Round Up: Favorite Read of the Week

Live Laugh Love: The Secret History of White Christian Women and the World They Made by Kristin Kobes Du Mez – “From the New York Times best-selling author of Jesus and John Wayne, a revelatory history of white Christian womanhood in the United States.” This was fascinating and eye opening. I remember a lot of the trends discussed and I also learned a lot.

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: Secrets Never Lie: Pickwick Bend Murder Club by Susan Boles

Listening: Murder on Charity Lane (Marigold Cottages Murders #2) by Jo Nichols

Week in Review:

I’m beat! We had high school parent teacher conferences Monday night, middle school conferences Tuesday night, Dracula dress rehearsal Wednesday night, Dracula opening night Thursday and two Dracula shows yesterday! That Friday pause amidst the busy was delightful and included a trip to Half Price Books. Dracula was fantastic –creepy and entertaining (I believe this link should go to some pictures).

Last Sunday we did get our pumpkins and the fall decorations at the pumpkin patch are so pretty.

Something I’m Looking Forward To:

We have a much quieter week this week and I’ll take it. It seems that all my library audio holds have come in at once so I’m hoping for some sit down time to stitch and listen.

  1. I think I only made it to my daughter’s first and last conferences throughout four years of high school. LOL So I was sure to log in for my son’s first high school virtual conferences a couple weeks ago. What a whirlwind! I have not seen the Dracula play – sounds fun!!

  2. Wait. Hold up. Why did I always think Live, Laugh, Love was another one of those self-help books that I’ve read billions of in my lifetime? I see that it is NOT and that it is “a cultural and historical critique tracing how New Thought and holiness evangelicalism combined to shape white Christian femininity through consumer culture.” Does that sound right?

So then I said “New Thought! Isn’t that the church my friend, Karen, goes to?” and wondered what the book says about Global Truth Center / Dr James Mellon type churches.

Adding that book to my TBR ASAP! lol

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
