My Review:

While 19 Criminals is book eight in Larissa Reinhart’s Maizie Albright Star Detective series, it reads easily as a standalone romantic comedy mystery. If readers are new to this series like I was, I encourage you to join me going back to book one 15 Minutes: A Romantic Comedy Mystery Novel, which, as I write this, is free on Amazon. I enjoyed this book so much I knew I wanted to read everything that came before it. I love knowing I have reading treats ahead of me!

Former celebrity and current assistant private investigator Maizie Alibright has her hands seriously full. A client is arrested and no family members are willing to claim the client’s dog, Cuddles, an enormous mastiff. Cuddles has decided Maizie is his person and is so protective that hardly anyone can get close to Maizie.

In addition to her new canine-companion, Maizie is worried about her boyfriend Wyatt Nash. Nash is a PI as well and he’s currently working for Maizie’s father’s company, but he won’t spill the beans on any aspect of the case. And then the two of them find their cases overlapping and no one is sure who to trust as the danger mounts.

This was so much fun. Do not let the 416 pages scare you–the story is fast paced and balances suspense and humor perfectly. Being a dog-lover myself, I adored Cuddles and could easily picture him (and all his slobber) in my mind’s eye. Those scenes were some of the funniest in the book.

Maizie cares deeply for her family and friends, and even when she’s scared, she dives in, knowing she must protect those she loves. She’s determined to uncover the truth even when everyone around her is telling her to stay out. I love a strong character who so many underestimate. I had a sense of who the villain was, but loved figuring out the why with Maizie and seeing how the mystery unraveled. Fans of humorous mysteries like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum, and Elle Cosimano’s Finlay Donovan should pick up this series. We all need some fun in our reading lives!

About the Book:

IS IT CONSIDERED STALKING YOUR BOYFRIEND IF HE’S INVOLVED IN YOUR MURDER INVESTIGATION? (ASKING FOR A FRIEND)

Turner & Hooch meets Mr. & Mrs. Smith in the eighth book of the Wall Street Journal bestselling Maizie Albright Star Detective series. For fans of rom-com mysteries, like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum or Jennifer Crusie’s Liz Danger series—readers who like quirky characters, funny fast-paced plots, and amateur sleuthing heroines who earnestly agonize over (but not between) murder and marriage.

#WannabeMrsSmith Ex-celebrity and current (assistant) private investigator Maizie Albright finds her already strange life has become even odder. Her new partner is two hundred pounds and canine. And her ex-partner/still-boyfriend is on the wrong side of her infidelity case.

Not that Wyatt Nash is cheating.

At least not on Maizie. She thinks Nash is cheating on his boss. Her dad. Which sounds much worse than it is. Except it is (maybe) worse than it sounds…

It’s Spy vs. Spy — or rather, Detective vs. Detective — when Maizie and Nash realize they’re both tailing the same subject for very different reasons. Can Maizie out-investigate Nash to learn the secrets he’s probing into at her father’s company?

Secrets she fears are much darker (and stinkier) than the secret DeerNose formula. Secrets possibly related to old rivalries and a recent murder.

Her relationship is on the line, but it’s more than her heart at stake. Her career rests on this case. And there’s a killer at large. One who will do anything to keep dark secrets from getting dragged into the light.

About The Author:

A Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Larissa loves to tell funny stories about sassy Southern women looking for love (and sometimes dead bodies) in all the wrong places, like in her international award-winning Cherry Tucker Mystery, Maizie Albright Star Detective, and Finley Goodhart Crime Caper series.

You might have seen Larissa and her family with their little dog, Biscuit, on HGTV’s House Hunters International “Living for the Weekend in Nagoya” episode. They’re back in Georgia where Biscuit has a bigger yard and now barks at deer instead of crows. Check out LarissaReinhart.com to learn more and get a free story while you’re visiting.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
