The Sunday Salon: February 25th, 2024

Happy Sunday! Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon, and I’m joining in!

Weekly Reads Round Up: Sunday February 18, 2024 – Saturday February 24, 2024

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

Double Grudge Donuts by Ginger Bolton (I read a galley for a review.)

Getting Unstuck: Breaking Your Habitual Patterns & Encountering Naked Reality by Pema Chödrön (I listened to this using my library’s Libby app.)

Maid for Murder: Paranormal Cozy Mystery Prequel by Polly Holmes (I read an eARC for a review.)

Letters of Enchantment #2 Ruthless Vows by Rebecca Ross (I read a copy from my library.)

Saints for All Occasions by J. Courtney Sullivan (I listened to a copy using my library’s Libby app. This was the February Mom Advice Book Gang selection.)

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: The Snow Job by Dianne Ascroft and The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley

Listening: Pages & Co. #5 The Treehouse Library by Anna James

Life: February is going by so quickly, which feels so odd since January was soooo sloooow. I helped my mom with an appointment and we got to have lunch at our favorite place (we are regulars and I have to say I love having a place where we are!).

In an appointment this week, I got to try using a balance board as a way to regulate our nervous system and I have to tell you, it was amazing. It looks just like this. I may have one in my Amazon cart as I type this. It was a fascinating appointment because I learned about a lot of cross lateral exercises that help with self-regulation. About year ago I learned the 4-7-8 breathing technique and it is magical. I was excited to learn more to add to my tool-box. Here’s an article about this topic (and even though the illustrations are of kids, just know these exercises help us too!).

3 Good Things:

One:  It was my turn to host book club and we had a lovely discussion of The Secret Life of Albert Entwistle by Matt Cain. (I listened to this and the audio was excellent.) Earlier in the day, I stopped by a global super market and purchased some Cadbury snacks from England for our gathering.

Two: I was out of cares to give by Friday of this week so I was delighted that the pizzas we had ordered for a school fundraiser arrived Friday after school. Guess what we had for dinner that night! Score!

Three: My daughter and I went to our high school’s production of The Addams Family on Saturday night and despite it not starting until 8 pm and going until 10:30 pm, it was so much fun. My face hurt from laughing when we got home. Such talented performers.

  1. I’ve been thinking about reading some more Pema Chodron, and when I saw Getting Unstuck on your list of reads, I decided to look for it. Happily, it’s at my library. Maybe I’ll listen today.

I’ve never heard of a balance board. I’ll see what I can find out about it.

  2. I learned about cross crawl exercises in the late 1980s at a weird commune place I went to for a week in California after my first marriage fell apart. I’m glad that they’re still being promoted because they work very well for me. The combination of the Pomodoro Technique and cross crawl marching helps me every day.

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
