I found Erica Ruth Neubauer’s wonderful Jane Wunderly mysteries when I had caught up on all the Veronica Speedwell mysteries and needed to fill that hole in my reading life. I am SO glad I found this delightful historical mystery series. They are outstanding on audio as well with Sarah Zimmerman as narrator. Just this week I finished book five, Secrets of a Scottish Isle, in print. I just couldn’t wait for the audio to be available on Hoopla from my library. Also, if you’re a big fan you can even get a Jane Wunderly T-Shirt! (I am putting this on my birthday wish list!)
Books in the Series:
1. Murder at the Mena House (2020)
2. Murder at Wedgefield Manor (2021)
3. Danger on the Atlantic (2022)
4. Intrigue in Istanbul (2023)
4.5. Murder Under the Mistletoe (2023)
5. Secrets of a Scottish Isle (2024)
Why I Love this Series:
Set in the 1920s, this series always includes strong mysteries, wonderful characters and arm-chair travel settings. Jane’s back story isn’t an easy one to learn, yet she is not a fragile flower of a character. The writing is vivid and brings both the characters and places to life. These are the perfect literary escapes.
More About the Settings:
In the publisher’s description, the series is said to be “wanderlust-inspiring” and I wholeheartedly agree. I might be going about my daily life, running errands, doing laundry, etc, but in my ears or when I have a minute to sit down, I’m immediately transported.
Throughout the series, we get to travel to 1926, Egypt, to the tranquil Essex countryside in England, across the Atlantic Ocean from Southampton to New York and even to 1927 Scotland, to an isolated isle off the western coast.
