After the heat wave that hit the midwest, the AC going out and future summer temps, I decided against a book list featuring books with summer vibes. This week I’m highlighting books that give us all the coldness. There are some I’ve read and a few I’ve added to my summer TBR. 

Books I’ve Read And Recommend: 

Frozen Peaches The Great Peach Experiment #3 by Erin Soderberg Downing – In the third Great Peach Experiment, the Peach family travels to chilly Sweden to stay at the world famous Ice Hotel. Oh the Peach family…I love you so much! This series is middle grade gold and this time the Peaches got to go to Sweden! I can’t say enough good things — I love stories of families making it work, even when it’s hard. If you liked the Vanderbeekers series, pick this up and yes, you have to start with book 1. I insist.

Under the Cocoon Moon (Olivia Penn Mysteries #3) by Kathleen Bailey – Advice columnist Olivia Penn is looking forward to spending the holidays with her friends and family in her cozy hometown of Apple Station, Virginia. The Christmas spirit has sparked a new romance, and everything seems merry and bright, until she’s mistaken for a dead woman. These are excellent on audio! This is the perfect series for grown-up Nancy Drew fans.While set around Christmas time, it’s not overwhelmingly Christmas-ish, so feel free to read at any time of the year.

What Happened to the McCrays? By Tracey Lange – A poignant story about the resilience of family, the importance of community, and the magic of middle school hockey. This book. Wow. I cried. A lot. (Reader, know thyself and double check trigger warnings). But for as emotional and hard this book was, it was also beautiful and hopeful. Lange’s writing is vivid and pulls you in right from the very start. Such a powerful story of family, grief, and change.

Snowcaps, Skiing, & Sabotage (Camper & Criminals #39) by Tonya Kappes – Grab a mug of hot cocoa and settle in for a thrilling ride through the heart of winter in Normal, Kentucky — where the temperature’s low, but the stakes have never been higher. I love this series, and this was the perfect after Christmas read. I wanted winter without the holiday and book 39 in the Camper and Criminals mystery series delivered.

Edited Out (Seffi Wardwell Mysteries #3) by Rebecca M. Douglass – Winter in Maine is long, dark, and cold, and California transplant Seffi Wardwell is combating the winter blues with a full calendar. This was just the cozy mystery I needed during a heat wave in the midwest AND our AC going out (it’s fixed now, yay!). I turned on my portable fan, sank into my favorite reading chair and immersed myself in the dark and cold winter in Maine.
