The Sunday Salon: Sunday February 11th 2024

Happy Sunday! Deb Nance at Readerbuzz hosts The Sunday Salon, and I’m joining in!

Weekly Reads Round Up: Sunday February 4, 2024 – Saturday February 10, 2024

I post reviews on Instagram and Goodreads. What have you read this week?

Life in Five Senses: How Exploring the Senses Got Me Out of My Head and Into the World by Gretchen Rubin (I read a copy from my shelves and took so many notes!)

Murder in Postscript (Lady of Letters Book 1) by Mary Winters (I listened to this historical mystery using my library’s Libby app.)

Things to Look Forward to: 52 Large and Small Joys for Today and Every Day by Sophie Blackall (I read a copy from my library.)

Twinkle Twinkle Au Revoir: A Mermaid Bay Christmas Shoppe Mystery by Heather Weidner (I read an eARC from the author. Review to be published soon on Kings River Life News & Reviews.)

Hammers and Homicide (A Hometown Hardware Mystery) by Paula Charles (I read a copy for an upcoming blog tour–to be posted Monday.)

Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman (I listened to a copy using my library’s Libby app and immediately put the print copy on hold so I could take notes.)

19 CRIMINALS: A Romantic Comedy Mystery Novel (Maizie Albright Star Detective Book 8) by Larissa Reinhart (I read a copy for an upcoming blog tour–to be posted Monday.)

What I’m Reading & Listening to Now:

Reading: The Busy Body by Kemper Donovan

Listening: The White Lady: A British Historical Mystery by Jacqueline Winspear

Life:

Different kids were home sick on different days this week and I am so thankful I can be home with them when they need to be home. Everyone is well now (I just knocked on wood). I was able to spend a day with my mom this week, taking her to an appointment and helping with a task. We always snag lunch and it was an enjoyable day. While the week felt busy, nothing out of the ordinary was on the calendar. Regular tasks and events.

3 Good Things:

One: Thank you so much to Deb Nance at Readerbuzz for the recommendation to read Things to Look Forward to: 52 Large and Small Joys for Today and Every Day by Sophie Blackall. This was absolutely delightful and one I’ve been thinking about all week. It’s a cozy magical little book about everyday joy.

Two: I don’t normally watch award shows but my daughter has gotten into them, so we watched the Grammys last weekend (although I didn’t stay up to finish). It was fun to watch together and I love Trevor Noah so much. If you watched then I suggest giving his February 7th podcast Trevor and Friends: BTS at The Grammys (What Now? with Trevor Noah) a listen. It was fascinating to learn the behind the scenes info, and he is just so thoughtfully funny. I laughed out loud several times.

Three:  We got out and about today and headed to an indie bookstore (Main Street Books in St Charles, MO). It was a little chilly for a walk, but I did come away with two books that I’m looking forward to reading–especially since I’m in my historical fiction era!

  1. I’m happy that you enjoyed Things to Look Forward to so much. The focus in the world always seems to be on the negative things or the big things, but, for me at least, my happiest moments are just that, moments.

I’ve enjoyed all the books of Gretchen Rubin. She’s one of those people who are both ordinary and extraordinary, and she’s very good at finding ways to squeeze more happiness out of life.

  2. I didn’t know that Jacqueline Winspear had a non-Maisie Dobbs book coming out. Added it to my list!

About Me

Welcome! I started my career as a children’s librarian, later becoming a public library director and now I’m a stay at home mom. While my career might have changed, my love of reading has been a constant since I was in 4th grade, and I read over 200 books a year. I love talking about books and connecting readers of all ages with just the right book. Thanks for reading!
